Overview

Every decade we see massive changes in the IT industry. In the 80s we saw desktop computing flourish, and progressed to a client server model in the 90s. Mobile computing grew quickly in 2000 and beyond. 2017 presents a variety of technologies that may deliver IT efficiencies on a grand scale. Technologies and trends such as AI and Advanced Machine Learning, Intelligent Apps, Intelligent Things, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Digital Twin, Blockchain and Distributed Ledgers, Conversational System, Mesh App and Service Architecture, Digital Technology Platforms, Adaptive Security Architecture., and others may be game changers. How will you capitalize on these technologies, but more importantly how will your Enterprise Architecture embrace the digital world to support all the changes?

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the technical framework of an enterprise but it also transcends technology and integrates with the business. Therefore, the discussion and implementation of EA needs to done in an integrated, holistic manner. An integrated EA (business and technical) can provide the necessary support for a business transformation that makes the business ready for the variety of business and technological challenges it will face. For example, technologies such Big Data, mobile and cloud computing are all highly disruptive technologies that require a fine balance between their business and technical aspects as the organization moves forward.

In this session, attendees will learn how to they need to reinvent and/or refine their EA to embrace a digital transformation.

Content that will be covered:

12:00pm – 1:00pm Luncheon

1:00pm – 1:50pm: Roadmaps in Enterprise Architecture: Current vs. Future State Architectures

Roadmaps are a fundamental part of strategic planning and enterprise architecture. It allows businesses to map out a set of actions that are required to move from where it is today, to where it wants to go; those actions turn into plans. Roadmapping enables organizations to tie strategy to deliverables using enterprise architecture, crucial for delivering on initiatives that have been prioritized.

1:50pm – 2:40pm; AI, Machine Learning, Blockchain & IoT- Where Do They Fit into Your EA Program?

All these technologies are moving a breakneck speed. Where do they fit into your program? Which are best for your vertical and your business initiatives?

In this session, attendees will be given a framework to evaluate these technologies and how they will fit in with your business.

2:40pm – 3:10pm; Refreshment Break

3:10pm – 4:00pm: How to Derive and Implement Metrics to Achieve EA Governance Objectives

After you have designed and/or refined your EA governance framework, it is best to design easy-to-use metrics to help maximize the effectiveness of the governance process.

Implementing EA metrics can help simplify and validate architecture decisions and can then be used to articulate the value of the architecture to the business.

In this session, attendees will learn:

  • How to identify metrics that can be used by both the business and IT
  • How to assess and evaluate IT assets and their value
  • How to measure alignment with business objectives
  • How to measure risks inherent in planning for legacy modernization business transformation, or application rationalization initiatives
  • A series of steps for leveraging EA metrics

4:00pm-5:00pm: Business Outcome Driven EA and Alignment: Lessons Learned from the Field (Panel Discussion)

Panelists will feature:
Shaye Robeson, Director of Enterprise Architecture , U.S. Cellular
Deanna Shannon, Director of IT Strategy & Planning, Panduit
Suresh Mothikuru, Architecture Leader, Customer & Dealer Services, Caterpillar
and other enterprise IT EA leaders

Old EA architectures focused on the needs of enterprise architects. To move the business forward, IT organizations must focus on creating a business outcome driven EA.

In this session, experienced EAs will shared their experiences adopting a business driven Enterprise Architecture.
